Electric Playhouse was honored to partner with the renowned Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico on the exhibit: Seeing Beyond. In part 2, read about the technological process for bringing clouds down to earth and take a peek at the final product.
Now it was time to make our ideas come to life!
We designed, sourced, installed, and developed the technical system, making sure to pay particular attention to blending in with the aesthetics of the gallery. White projector bodies and mounts, a custom white sensor enclosure, and white cabling all help to minimize the presence of technology, which helped us pull off the magic trick.
Six ultra-short throw projectors are mapped and blended to cover the walls with generative, animated clouds in a sky scene. We programmed fabricated DMX LED lighting strips to blend seamlessly with the top edge of the projected image, which continues the sky to the ceiling in a resourceful way and furthers the sense of immersion.
The museum built up one of the exhibit walls as a double layer theater scrim, adding another perspective through the play of light. If you listened carefully, a subtle ambient wind audio track was playing in the background.
O’Keeffe In A New Light Seeing Beyond opened November 7, 2019, to absolutely rave reviews as part of a larger museum refresh.
No master expressed the mysteries and wonders of the southwest as evocatively and memorably as Georgia O’Keeffe. The museum is one of the top attractions in the region, known worldwide for its excellence. Naturally, they were a phenomenal group to work with. We’ll be watching with excitement as they introduce new experiences and perspectives in the future for their members, patrons, and guests.
