Seeing Beyond—Electric Playhouse Collaborates With Georgia O’Keeffe Museum: Who and what?

Electric Playhouse was honored to partner with the renowned Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico to bring a new experiential exhibit to their guests from all around the world: Seeing Beyond. Read about how we brought people above the clouds as a tribute to the late artist.

The exhibit was inspired by O’Keeffe’s oil on canvas painting, Above The Clouds I, 1963, which is featured in the gallery.

Electric Playhouse collaborated with Liz Neely, Curator of Digital Experience at the museum and her team as well as Thinc Design, NYC, to develop an innovative way for guests to interact with O’Keeffe’s unique and pioneering exploration of perspective. The team investigated the design of the guest experience, exhibit fabrication, and methods that O’Keeffe herself may have pursued with digital media.

Theresa Kitt, Ben Matthews, Aidan Hendrickson, Chris Steinmetz, Wesley Eccles, Chris Alires, and Eric Yakley represented our team on this project. The solution we came up with was based on custom software that leverages ray marching techniques and utilizes real-time generative noise to provide an interactive cloud experience that responds to movement detected by two sensors hanging overhead.

Read part 2 to see what our team did to bring the painting to life.
