ABQ Biopark Aquarium—Otter Exhibit

Turning a dark and constrictive hallway into an attractive otter-friendly space was the task at hand and the Electric Playhouse Studios team was up for the challenge.

“Chaos” and “Mayhem” are not usually two things we’re comfy working around but when those are the names of the adorable river otters at the Albuquerque Biopark and we got a chance to build them an exhibit as cool as they are, we didn’t mind it so much.

Continuing our relationship with the Albuquerque BioPark (check out our refresh of the mural in the Reptile House at the zoo and our yearly contribution to the River of Lights at the botanical garden), we took what was once a dark corridor, decorated with a basic nautical theme, and transformed it with interactive touch screens–installed in real cottonwood trees, a giant mural featuring 250 different animals, a projected river that allows for splashing, and an ongoing soundscape featuring the same kind of sounds that Chaos and Mayhem are used to hearing in their natural habitat. The whole thing comes together to submerge aquarium visitors into the world that the otters call home.

Working locally and creating cool things for Albuquerque is so important to us. We’re very proud every time we’re tapped to create an exhibit that will be enjoyed for years by the people who live here and those who come to visit.
